History of the Ohio River :

Origin 10,000 years ago, when the glaciers diverted existing rivers,
the Ohio River has living and transport for many people,
from their own prehistoric cultures of the children of the Information Age.
You can visit the site of the interpretive center near Evansville,
Indiana, which the artifacts of the people who lived here around
1300 in Illinois visit Kincaid Mounds, a Native American
archaeological treasures dating from 800 AD-1500 AD.

As the broad river waves washing over the years, we go to European settlement of the area.Originally built in the middle of 1500, the fort site is passed through the hands of Spanish, French, British, and eventually fell to U.S. during the Revolutionary WarToday you can visit the fort and walk, fish or camp at the state park. Stop at the fort museum in Metropolis, Illinois, to the story of the history of the fort with actual artifacts, archival photographs, period costumes, and a short interpretive video presentation.

Travel the Ohio River corridor, a pre-Civil War era hotbed of slavery and the Underground Railroad activity, where the slaves once tried desperately to stabbing the river to free territory. Town residents once designated safe haven by the burning of the lights in their windows.

The Ohio River Scenic byway is a historic route and an important stop on the Underground Railroad along the three states of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. The river also offers bird watchers with many excellent opportunities for first-hand a favorable position of the region's bird life.
