Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski

Jim John Costelloe, who played Johnny Cakes during a brief run on “The Sopranos” killed himself last week. According to the police, Costelloe, a former FDNY firefighter, shot himself in the head in his basement bedroom on 16th December 2008. It was a holiday tragedy that has stunned family and friends.

The front door to John Costelloe’s Sunset Park home was still sealed with police stickers yesterday, more than a week after the rugged 47-year-old actor committed suicide. Police say the actor who portrayed the lover of a closeted gay mobster on "The Sopranos" has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in New York. Costelloe also had a small role in Doubt, a critically-acclaimed drama currently in theaters. Police were called to his residence after family members were unable to reach him. Students—and much of the television-viewing public—would probably recognize Costelloe best from his 2006 role as a short-order cook named Jim Witowski, also known as Johnny Cakes, on The Sopranos.
